Prospective Student Visits

Request a visitWhat is a prospective student visit?

A student interested in the Health Sciences Magnet attends classes with an existing magnet student to get a feel for the school, the classes, and student life at Washington High School. Some people refer to it as "shadowing."

Who can shadow?

Students in 8th through 9th grades from all districts are invited to visit.

Who will be my student's ambassador?

Your student's ambassador will be a magnet student in honors and advanced classes because the Health Sciences Magnet program offers two choices, Project Lead The Way (PLTW) or Early College (students receive a high school diploma and an associate degree, or up to two years of college credit, by taking a mixture of high school and college classes), a student shadowing at Washington may be assigned two ambassadors to provide a shadowing experience in both paths.

How do I register for a visit?

Complete this application and pick your top three dates and times. There is a limit of 10 students per day, but we will make every effort to have your student shadow in one of their top three selections. You will be contacted by Student Management with the date and time of your student's visit, at which point you can make arrangements with your student's school. Please do not assume that you will automatically get your first choice.

Can my student bring their cell phone?

We would encourage your student to be judicious about their cell phone use during their visit. If you want the student to have the phone on them at all times in case of emergency, we understand. We would request that they not spend their time in class on the phone, as this not only distracts them (and their ambassador) from their purpose here but gives the other students and faculty a bad first impression of your student.

Can my student bring their backpack?

We do not allow backpacks in the classroom. If your student brings a backpack, it will be kept in the Student Management Office for the duration of the visit.

What should my student wear?

There are no uniforms at Washington High School. We encourage our students to dress appropriately for school--no muscle shirts, bare midriffs, short shorts. Jeans and a nice shirt/blouse make a good impression.
